The weekly Actual Slaughter report today detailed meat production statistics for the week ending February 3. The trade monitors this report for its weight data.
Dressed steer weights fell 3 lbs. in this week to 909. Heifers rose 2 lbs. to 827. To reduce the seasonal impact our focus is the year over year comparison. By that metric steer weights fell from +2 lbs. to now +1. Heifer weights increased from -5 lbs. to -6.
This data would be slightly supportive. Weights were reducing beef production by -0.1% separate from slaughter numbers the week before. They are now taking away -0.2% from beef production.

Dressed barrow/gilt weights were unchanged from the prior week to 215 lbs. They are running even with last year.
