High cattle weights adding back 2.9% to beef production.

The weekly Actual Slaughter report this morning covered meat production statistics for first week of April.

Dressed steer weights in this week were -4 lb. from the prior week to 919. Heifers were +1 lb. from the prior week to 849.

Compared with the prior year, weights increased. Steers went from +25 lbs. vs. last year to now +27 in the last week. Heifers increased from +19 lbs. from last year to now +21.

This is slightly negative. Weights are adding back 2.9% to beef production separate from slaughter numbers.

Dressed barrow/gilt weights were +1 from the prior week to 214 lbs. Compared with last year they increased from -2 to -1.
