The weekly Actual Slaughter report detailed meat production statistics for the third week of August.
Dressed steer weights were unchanged from the prior week, 931 lbs. Dressed heifers also unchanged at 840. Compared with last year steers slipped from +26 lbs. to +25. Heifers however rose from +20 lbs. to now +21.
Cattle weights peaked in May at +4.0% year/year. They are now +2.7%.
Dressed hog weights rose +1 lb. from the prior week, 209 lbs. The comparison to last year jumped sharply as weights were still finding a seasonal low at this time. Compared with last year they rose from +3 lbs. to now +6.
Higher weights are now adding +3.0% year/year to pork production separate from slaughter numbers. This large weight overage will seem to ease when both this year and last year are back on the seasonal increase ahead.
