Cattle weights stabilize. Hog weights increase vs. last year.

The weekly Actual Slaughter report this morning detailed meat production data for the third week of July.

Dressed steer weights were unchanged from the prior week, 915 lbs. Dressed heifers saw a 4 lb. bump, now 835. Compared with last year there was no change from the prior week. Steers are +22 lbs. from last year and heifers are +23.

Cattle weights are adding +2.6% to beef production. That is improved from eight weeks ago, +4.0%.

Dressed barrow/gilt weights were unchanged from the prior week, 209 lbs. Compared with last year though, as this is a time of seasonal declines, they rose from +2 to now +3 lbs.

Hog weights are now adding +1.5% to pork production separate from the large slaughter numbers.
