Cattle weights back on the rise, not just seasonally. Hog weights stabilize.

The weekly Actual Slaughter report detailed meat production statistics for the second week of September.

Dressed steer weights rose +4 lbs. from the prior week to now 945. Dressed heifers were +5 lbs. in this week to 852. Compared with last year steer weights rose +2 to +26 lbs. Heifers, as last year had a surprising weight drop, rose a full +10 lbs. to +31.

Cattle weights peaked in May at +4.0% year/year. They declined down to +2.5% by the first week of August. However, they are now back to +3.2%.

Dressed barrow/gilt weights were unchanged from the prior week, 210 lbs. compared with last year there was no change, +4 lbs.

Hog weights remain +1.9% from one year ago.
