Cattle and hog weights slip from the prior week. No year/year change however.

The weekly Actual Slaughter report detailed meat production statistics for the first week of June.

Dressed steer weights slipped -4 lbs. from the prior week to 918. Dressed heifers fell -4 lbs. from the prior week to 838. Given that sharp week to week declines are normal for this time of year our focus is on the year over year comparison. By that metric there was little movement. Dressed steers went from +37 lbs. over last year to +36. Dressed heifers did not change from the prior week, +26 lbs.

Higher cattle weights are adding back +3.8% to beef production separate from slaughter numbers.

Dressed barrow/gilt weights slipped -1 lbs. from the prior week to 213. Compared with the prior year there was no change. Dressed hog weights are still +3 lbs. from last year. Higher hog weights are adding back +1.4% to pork production separate from slaughter numbers.
